Fall 2023
Representation: Fiction in Architecture

Fall 2023<br>Representation: Fiction in Architecture

Metropolis by Fritz Lang (1927) – film décor

Students are introduced to the notion of representation in architecture, by gathering basic knowledge on the origins of architecture and landscape representation and how it developed into the realm of fiction, influencing the real world. The seminar aims at testing ways of creating a fiction within a group, with a focus on representational means. Students will practically develop their graphic and modelling skills in order to create a decor for an imaginary film set. The origin and destiny of construction materials such as concrete, wood, stone or steel will be the focus of the research and create the context for a fiction and its decor. The course will alternate between individual and collective working dynamics and address the topic of (shared) authorship. Students will strengthen their capacity of finding an appropriate position within a group by offering the best of their personal skills and reliable cooperation.
