The Great Repair: umunyu

For the first time ARCH+ and munyu present "The Great Repair: umunyu" on the African continent – an international exhibition that explores the contradictions growth and ecology through the material culture of architecture. Building on previous editions in Berlin, Malmö and Paris, "The Great Repair: umunyu" brings together artists, architects, researchers and community practitioners from Kenya and around the world to explore repair as a societal, ecological and architectural paradigm. Through projects spanning art, architecture and spatial practice, the exhibition examines how acts of care, maintenance, resistance and rebuilding can contribute to more just and sustainable futures.

The University of Luxembourg is a partner of the exhibition, with Professor Florian Hertweck serving as co-curator. As part of the University's contribution, Professor Hertweck together with Master in Architecture students Hamza Haidam and Julia Paszkot developed a project for the exhibition in partnership with the University of Luxembourg Media Centre. The installation features a series of architectural models and a map.

Alongside the exhibition, the public programme "umunyu: Acts of Repair", funded by the Agency for International Museum Cooperation, brings together discussions, community events and guided walks across Nairobi, extending the exhibition's exploration of repair into the city's public and cultural spaces.
